The Conversation is a podcast ostensibly about the world of contemporary art, and features conversations with artists, collectors, curators, writers and dealers/gallerists, as well as the odd miscellaneous art world individual. Michael Shaw, an artist based in L.A., launched the show in November, 2011, inspired by the podcast medium and its more performance-like approach to conversation, as opposed to traditional interview q-&-a’s.
In addition to being available streaming online and via all the major podcast platforms, The Conversation also can be heard monthly on KCHUNG radio in Los Angeles. The podcast took part in a radio residency at The Getty Museum in February of 2017.
About Michael Shaw: I began the podcast coming from the place of, “I want to make a podcast, what can I make it about?”, and art was the most prominent candidate. The evolution of the show has gone from a more straight ‘interview’ type of dynamic to ideally something far less predictable. The best episodes have an element of performance to them. That’s the objective; the challenge is getting the guest to come on board with that approach.
